About Roger W Hines
Roger Hines is a bassist who plays both acoustic and electric bass. Currently, he is a Professor of Double Bass at Capital University in Bexley, OH. In 1980 he joined Ray Charles as his bassist which led to six years of touring the world and recording exclusively with Mr. Charles. He continued to collaborate with Mr. Charles on various projects until his passing in 2004. Additionally, he had the privilege of touring with Grammy winning vocalist, Diane Schuur, as her bassist and musical director. He has performed with many other artists including Etta Jones, Louie Bellson, Johnny Coles, Rosemary Clooney, Joe McBride, Eddie Daniels, Billy Eckstine, Eddie Jefferson, Hank Marr, Zoot Sims and Ernie Watts. He has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the White House. Roger has shared his expertise through teaching at Capital University and The Ohio State University, has conducted jazz clinics and performed at festivals around the world. He is a member of various professional organizations and has received grants and scholarships from several organizations including the Ohio Arts Council.
